Polotechnics: Mozhgan, Ensoul

Polotechnics brings the Toronto debut of San Francisco-based electronic music maven Mozhgan. The Iranian-born artist/DJ tours extensively internationally, having honed her dark arts on the decks for quite some time. Describing her sound as “dark psychedelic acid space music”, expect a cerebral live set with pulsating energy that is transportive. Local mainstay Ensoul (Kourosh Dehghani) starts the night with feel-good, thick basslines, freaky synths and heavy drum machine workouts with Balearic beats.

Polotechnics shines a light on international and local artists from the Iranian diasporic underground, shifting and broadening perspectives of Persian electronic music. From high-energy dance beats to contemplative sound art, Link Music Lab’s new series invites a range of genres such as EBM, electro, techno, acid and all things synth. Polotechnics is a portmanteau of “Technics”, the Japanese brand name for a line of high-end audio equipment, the game of polo, an Iranian invention and the Farsi word for rice, also polo, aiming to nourish the soul by expanding perceptions of Iranian electronic music.
