This concert features world renowned guitarist – Itamar Erez, Hamin Honari (Percussion), and Sina Ettehad on the Kamanche.
Itamar Erez:
Itamar’s music holds a depth and sensitivity that touches listeners deeply; It blends the delicateness of Middle Eastern music, the freedom found in Jazz and the passion of Flamenco, creating a unique sound all his own.
Recipient of the 2014 ACUM Prize for Special Achievement
in Jazz and the prestigious 2014 Landau Prize, Itamar Erez is an
internationally renowned composer and guitarist who has
shared the stage with such musicians as Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Tomatito, Avishai Cohen, Jean-Louis Matinier, Zohar Fresco, and others. Itamar has released two CDs with his quartet The Adama
Ensemble, “Desert Song” (2006) and “Hommage” (2010).
His most recent release, “New Dawn” (2013), is a duet
collaboration with Yshai Afterman (percussion), with special guest Antonio Serrano (harmonica).
Sina Ettehad
Sina Ettehad began learning Violin and studying music theory under master Atabaki’s guidance since he was 12 years old. Four years later, he started learning the ancient Iranian fiddle known as Kamancheh under master Ardeshir Kamkar’s supervision. Sina has performed numerous concerts in both his native Iran and in Canada. He is the core member of Kereshmeh Ensemble, and an active member of the Vancouver Inter-cultural Orchestra (VICO), the Zaryab ensemble (Persian and Flamenco fusion music), the Raha Ensemble, the Wind band (Jazz and Middle East Fusion Music), and Diba Ensemble. In 2010, Sina and the Kereshmeh ensemble performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in what was the first collaboration of a Persian ensemble and the VSO. Since then, Sina has toured Canada and recorded a live session for the CBC. Sina has been studying Music at the Vancouver Community College. He is also a passionate teacher and currently teaches at Vancouver Music Gallery, Nava Art Centre and his own Music studio.
Hamin Honari is a Iranian-Canadian hand drummer who has specialized on the Iranian hand drum, Tombak. He has focused on adapting his drumming style and technique to accommodate many different genres of music. He has toured as a member of the Dastan Ensemble, one of Iran’s most well-known Persian classical music ensembles and has performed with many amazing musicians and singers such as Salar Aghili, Parissa, Hossein Omoumi, Hossein Behroozinia, Saeed Farajpouri, Itamar Erez, and Davod Azad. Hamin lives in Vancouver, BC where he is actively teaching and performing Persian and middle-eastern hand drums.
