One Week. One Album

Mashregh Ensemble members are spread out – 3 live in Vancouver, 2 in Montreal and 1 in Mexico city. This residency is not only a chance for them to connect once again as an ensemble but to also flex their creative muscles. The ensemble will also officially welcome new guitarist and musical collaborate, Josue Tacoronte Otero to its folds.

Join Farnaz Ohadi and Mashregh Ensemble as they present the progress of a week long residency on Galiano Island at LEÑA Artist Research & Residency Centre

The ensemble will have spent a week in intensive creative work, creating new songs, exploring the fusion of Flamenco rhythm with Persian instrumentation and farsi lyrics. Joined by the wildly creative and engaging Flamenco dancer, Sydney M. Cochrane as the 6th artist in the ensemble

There will be two shows, one afternoon and one evening. Between the two shows we will present two workshops:

1. First Workshop: Report on the week in residency and how the fusion worked in such intensive creative space, followed by a short documentary screening and Q&A from the band.

2. Second Workshop: World debut of animated music video of the song Hesar from the album “Bird Dance”, created by the powerhouse duo, Nomadic alternatives. The screening will be followed by a presentation by the animators about the process of creation and Q&A.

**NOTE!**

There are two different eventbright events – one for the afternoon show and one for the evening. In each of these events you can arrange for attendance of workshops. Be sure to pick the concert that works for you.

You are of course also invited to only attend the concerts. But the Workshops will give you a deeper understanding of Mashregh Ensemble’s creative process.
