Amin Sameni & Farnaz Ohadi - A night of Persian Fusion Music

Amin Sameni & Farnaz Ohadi, both acclaimed singers/song writers in their own rights, in their first collaborative effort, are proud to present a night of Persian Fusion music, a beautiful tapestry of all original works – hosted by Vancouver Coastal Jazz.

As a duo, one brings his original pieces of Persian pop and re-imagined traditional classical Persian music, where the other brings forth her brand new world music genre: “Persian Flamenco”.

Amin with his deep baritone and Farnaz with her contralto voice have found a magical pairing in each others music, looking for common threads as they weave a musical conversation through the night. A rare treat, not to be missed.

Amin and Farnaz will be joined by two great musicians, Guitarist Marek Wojtaszek and Percussionist Davide Sampaolo. More about the artists:

Amin:

Amin, with his unique deep voice and passionate feelings, offers his own taste of music.

Besides being a singer, he has been a guitarist and a songwriter as well. He has released a few singles and had perfomances in different venues.

Farnaz:

Multidisciplinary musician, singer, song writer Farnaz Ohadi strives to create memorabe music that is at once transformative and inspirational. She has been a flamenco dancer in Vancouver, Canada since 1998 and started to sing in Spanish in 2005. Born and raised in Iran, she felt compelled to find her own authentic voice in her music which led her to start combining her love of Flamenco music with Persian Poetry in 2012.

She recently released her debut album titled “Bird Dance” which showcases all original songs, sung in Farsi and based on traditional flamenco rhythms, jazz and traditional Persian songs.

Marek (Guitar):

Marekito (Marek Wojtaszek) – Flamenco guitarist whose style and sound are often described as ’emotional, passionate, melodic and modern’ yet deeply rooted in flamenco tradition.

Marekito developed his style and knowledge under the guidance of Victor Kolstee at Centro Flamenco (Vancouver) and Ruben Diaz (Malaga). He has also studied and performed with other influential flamenco figures such as Rosario Ancer, Manuel Lozano “El Carbonero”, Jesus Montoya, Cristina Benitez, and Sabas Santos.

Davide (Percussion):

Davide Sampaolo was born in Rome, Italy into a family of musicians and has been studying music (piano, guitar and drums) since he was a child. Currently, he lives in Vancouver with his wife and three kids and is a Canadian permanent resident since 2016. At a young age, he started to studying percussion with the Senegalese maestros Badu N’dyae and Sena M’baye at the “Scuola popolare di Musica di Testaccio” in Rome.

Davide has performed on international tours and shows with the great Flamenco dancers Pastora Galvan (Spain), Felipe Mato (Spain) and Cristina Benitez (Spain) , with the guitarists Manuel Montero Miranda (Spain), Rycardo Moreno (Spain), Anton Jimenez (Spain), Ruben Portillo Ponce (Spain), Vahagni Turgutyan (Los Angeles – Armenia), Daniel Jurado (Spain), with the flamenco singers David Hornillo (Spain), Alejandro Villaescusa (Spain), Jose Salguero (Spain), Naike Ponce Gonzalez (Spain), Coral de los Reyes (Spain), and the spanish pianist Rosario Montoya la Reina Gitana.

Davide is currently working as a freelance percussionist in Vancouver performing and creating recordings and teaching percussion.
