DBLSPK is a quarterly reading series in which we present and discuss works in translation. We talk about what changes linguistically, culturally, and performatively.
Join us on April 8 for a reading of and lively discussion on the translation and adaptation work of:
Suddenly, This God Lover Died in the Love of God, This God Slain Died by the Sword of Godby Aryo Khakpour
Readings are in Farsi and English. Performed by: Aryo Khakpour, Elika Mojtabaei, and Arash Khakpour.
This project is inspired by Suddenly, This God Lover Died in the Love of God, This God Slain Died by the Sword of God, a prominent Iranian play written by Abbas Nalbandian in 1971. It has only been performed once due to its challenging form and spirit. The play is about a group of people living in a poor part of Tehran in a communal house. A new tenant who seems to have a chest full of money arrives and becomes the object of the neighbours’ curiosity, envy, and hatred.
This work was recently presented as a work in progress in Push 2019 by the The Biting School with Translation Dramaturgy provided by DD Kugler, and Editing provided by Elika Mojtabaei.
