- Overview
“O lovers! The religion of the love of God is not found in Islam alone. In the realm of love, there is neither belief, nor unbelief.” — Rumi
The concept of the love of God historically served a key foundation of Sufism, and many Sufi mystics have written numerous lyrical philosophies about a love-based relationship with God. Persian poet Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi, most commonly shortened to “Rumi,” is revered as the champion of this ecstatic love movement, widespread in Sufi poetry. Considered the greatest poet in the history of Sufism, Rumi and his passionate relationship with God are explored by University of Toronto’s Reza Tabandeh in this special introductory talk.
