On Sep 13, Mahsa (Jina) Amini, a 22 year old woman from Saqez, Kurdistan, got arrested for “improper hijab” while on vacation in Tehran. She got beaten up while in custody which lead to severe brain injury, coma and her death on Sep 16. Her funeral turned into protests in Saqez, Sanandaj, and other Kurdish cities. Once again IR brutally cracked down protests. In the last four days we have witnessed large anti-government protests in many Iranian cities and towns, with gunshots reported. At least
We are deeply saddened and outraged by murder of Jina and the systematic oppression that Iranian women have been facing for over 43 years. We are standing in solidarity with Jina’s family, and people of Iran who have shown extraordinary courage and bravery in the face of their brutal oppression.
