Inner Journey series of Rumi Canada, inspired by the ancient teachings of Rumi, Hafiz, and other Sufi mystics & teachers is a journey that takes us whirling into the core of ourself, where all is One.

In this Journey, the music is led by Amir Koushkani who is an ethnomusicologist, composer, and performer, with a particular expertise in classical music and a further specialization in Sufi and Persian mystical music with an emphasis on ethnological perspectives.

Amir Koushkani & friends will take us on a journey to experience the phenomenon of esoteric music improvisation as an expression and manifestation of mystical spiritual practice in Sufism, featuring live music and Sufi Whirling dervishes.

In advance of Inner Journey IV featuring Amir Koushkani & friends on Friday May 11 at the Aga Khan Museum’s Auditorium, join Amir Koushkani for a lecture and musical demonstration at the Ismaili Centre of Toronto on Thursday, May 10 at 8pm (doors open at 730) at the Ismaili Centre of Toronto. The lecture will the phenomenon of esoteric musical improvisation as an expression and manifestation of mystical spiritual practice in Sufism. He will introduce philosophical and spiritual principles of Sufism, describe the various ways music and mysticism come together, and delve into the improvisational elements of Sufi gathering (sama’a).
