- Overview
Standard Time welcomes Polotechnics featuring the Toronto debut of Elena Colombi, the London-based, Italian DJ, producer, NTS radio host and boss at Osàre! Editions, supported by Korea Town Acid, the JUNO Award nominated DJ, producer and live PA performer bridging continents from Seoul to Toronto.
Touted as a beguiling selector, Elena Colombi has been praised as a “must-see for anyone into the darker recesses of electronic music” (Resident Advisor’s Carlos Hawthorn). Expect incredible range – from cosmic psychedelia and pounding jungle to obscure post-punk and spoken word – with out-there crossings as they serve up pulsating polyrhythms, industrial grooves and flexed techno with seamless flow and relentless stamina.
Korea Town Acid’s sonic palette is a complimentary fusion of disparate influences with her rich background in classical piano juxtaposed against a fervent love for the dynamic rhythms of hip-hop and the kaleidoscopic melodies of K-pop. For her opening duty for Colombi, she will create an immersive experience that transcends classification while focused on Korean electronic producers.
Polotechnics shines a light on international and local artists from the Iranian diasporic underground, shifting and broadening perspectives of Asian electronic music. From high-energy dance beats to contemplative sound art, Link Music Lab’s series invites a range of genres such as EBM, electro, techno, acid and all things synth. Polotechnics is a portmanteau of “Technics”, the Japanese brand name for a line of high-end audio equipment and the Persian word for rice, also polo, aiming to nourish the soul by expanding perceptions of Iranian electronic music.
Link Music Lab gratefully acknowledges the generous support of Canadian Heritage.
