Facilitator’s Biography
Tina Rouhendeh is one of the most well-renowned calligraphy artists from Iran. She is a graduate of the Iranian Calligraphers Association in Iran and is now teaching calligraphy at Ryerson University. Since arriving in Canada in 2007, she has been running workshops, exhibitions, and classes in teaching calligraphy as well as conducting exhibitions in Toronto and Chicago. Her migration to Canada inspired her to reflect more on modern-day manifestations. Her most recent series, “Scribe and Stitches”, is the outcome of her three years of experiment with fabric. As a calligrapher, it is very important to Tina to increase an objective engagement with her audience and invite her audience to get connected with her personal world and observations through her recent artworks. The art of calligraphy and hand stitches provide a common ground for communication and carry common intense visual and haptic resonance. As a calligrapher with 15 years of experience, she is choosing hand stitches and fabric as a contemporary art medium and an international language to express her original ideas in a lively and personal way. Tina is currently residing in Windsor, Ontario, studying Visual Art and English Literature programs at the University of Windsor. She is an active volunteer and member of the Arts Council-Windsor and Region.
