- Overview
North York Arts is proud to present the Northbound Gallery Program, an initiative to highlight newcomer and first-generation artists, as well as those with connections to North York. Our fifth reception for Northbound will be held at the 918 Bathurst Centre for Culture, Arts, Media and Education, and is free to the public.
The reception will showcase North York artist Elham Fatapour and her exhibition “My Story”, which runs from Sept 25th – Oct 10th, 2019.
My Story investigates how historical events from war-stricken communities have a paralyzing effect over bodies. The exhibition consists of two series: My Story and Erosion. My Story is a series of 10 life size figurative paintings which suggest Elham’s autobiography. Erosion is a series of works based on injustices suffered by children. The series comments on the often transient nature of many of these refugees’ lives – dissolved and forgotten.
The Northbound reception will be held at the 918 Bathurst Centre for Culture, Arts, Media and Education on September 26 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. The reception is free, but members of the public are to RSVP.
