- Overview
A night championing underground music, digital creativity and the love of vinyl.
Polotechnics brings an Analog Room showcase featuring three dynamic, Iranian-born electronic artists. It marks the long-overdue Toronto debut of Shemroon (Tehran), the return of Salar Ansari (Detroit) and the Canadian debut of Emsho (New York City).
Brothers Shemroon (Mehdi Ansari) and Salar Ansari are among the original residents and co-founders of the famed Analog Room, credited with birthing Dubai’s dance music underground (Scene Noise). The two of them have been building goodwill for over a decade by nurturing electronic talent while throwing epic parties. As chief promoter and General Director of MUTEK.AE, Shemroon is no stranger to building a vibe.
Known for his signature blend of house, techno and Persian rhythms, award-winning DJ and producer Salar Ansari is also co-founder of Feeder Loft-Studio. His live PA performances, using a mixer and outboard effects, have the ability to adapt to the room. He spins prolifically locally while touring internationally.
Emsho has been developing her career by drawing inspiration from the Brooklyn and Berlin underground. With sets characterized by diversity and versatility, she showcases her eclectic taste, always on the hunt of raw, dark and funky grooves.
Polotechnics shines a light on international and local artists from the Iranian diasporic underground, shifting and broadening perspectives of Asian electronic music. From high-energy dance beats to contemplative sound art, Link Music Lab’s series invites a range of genres such as EBM, electro, techno, acid and all things synth. Polotechnics is a portmanteau of “Technics”, the Japanese brand name for a line of high-end audio equipment and the Persian word for rice, also polo, aiming to nourish the soul by expanding perceptions.
