Opening Reception for Well One

Join us for the opening reception of Well One, on Thursday, September 28th from 6pm to 9pm!

The Well Collective is a group of Toronto-based painters brought together by a focus on the physicality of paint, producing work that commands the viewer to see and experience the material construction and disintegration of images. The collective shares an interest in the historical tradition of this process which they feel is profoundly relevant to this virtual and simulated world. Through tactile mark-making, they strive to capture the ways in which painting is able to slow down the reception and processing of images or experiences in this accelerated phase of civilization. Exploring both the urban and rural landscape and architectural subject matter, their work shares a common interest in the banal and everyday, and their shared aim lies in the tradition of manipulating paint in order to transform and transfix fleeting or past moments, physically and visually unfolding them into the present.
