Guest musicians: Shahin Fayaz – tar, and Arash Javadpour – oudHear lyrical and intricate arrangements of less heard pieces from three different eras of Iranian music (works from asatid Davami, Bahari, and Meshkatian) as well as originals and solo improvisations searching and exploring hāl (sense of presence and musical elation).The performers are very happy to be performing at Beit Zatoun again, and would like to thank Beit Zatoun for its contributions to promoting peace, social justice and social responsibility. Pedram Khavarzamni is one of the most prominent tonbak players from the new generation of Persian classical music. Pedram’s unique style keeps a traditional base whilst adding virtuosic modern patterns, creating active rhythms and new sounds rooted in tradition.
He has toured worldwide and played alongside artists such as Kayhan Kalhor, Ali Akbar Moradi, Greek music virtuoso Ross Daly, Habil Aliev, Mohamad Rahim Khushnawaz, Dhruba Gosh, and many more, always bringing his musical sensitivity and ability to suite every kind of music. He has also collaborated with great Perisan music artists including Dariush Talaei, Hamid Motobassem, Hossein Alizadeh, Siamak Aghaei, Hamid Khabazi, Parissa, Dastan Ensemble, and many more, and has taken him to some of the most prestigious stages around the world.”Yaad Baad”, a collaboration with Siamak Aghaei, Salar Aghili, and Homayoun Shajarian in memory of late ostad Meshkatian is one of the most popular traditional Iranian music Albums.
His highly anticipated collection of tonbak compositions is due to be published by Mahoor institute in the coming year.
Currently, he teaches tonbak at Sarv Music Academy and is World Music Artist-in-Residence at University of Toronto.Amin Reyhani has spent much of his life discovering the traditional repertoire of Persian music, He studied santour at Mashhad University and graduated from Tehran University of Fine Arts in 2001, where he studied with numerous masters such as of Majid Kiani, Daryoush Talai, and many others.
Amin founded Ghazal Ensemble and Tooba Ensmeble in Iran, performing in Tehran and other cities. He was also an active music teacher. Amin immigrated to Canada in 2010 and has been working with Sarv Ensemble and teaching at Sarv Music Academy. Currently he is following his interest in Persian mystic ideas in the practice of music.Kousha Nakhaei is a kamanche player, violinist and music educator. He studied music at York University where he pursued classical violin with Jaime Weisenblum, improvisation with Casey Sokol, South Indian rhythm with Trichy Sankaran. Kousha continued violin studies with Mark Skazinetsky and Arkady Yanivker and explored the violin in many styles, including Celtic fiddling, open Improvisation, Persian and Arabic music. In addition, Kousha has been studying, performing, and teaching Persian classical music on the kamanche for several years. He is mostly self taught on the kamanche, but has also studied with Hamidreza Khalatbari. Kousha has performed with many artists including Yoyo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, Loreena McKennitt. He is a member of Shiraz Ensemble, and a founding member of Sarv Ensemble, and Sarv Music Academy.
Araz Salek was in Tehran and started playing Tar at the age of 8 under Tofigh Iranparvar. He studied Iranian classical repertoire, vocal and instrumental radifs, under masters Hooshang Zarif, Arshad Tahmasebi and Hossein Omoumi. He has performed across Canada and Europe with numerous musicians including Ross Daly, Pedram Khavarzamini, Alireza Ghorbani, Imamyar Hassanov, and more. Araz teaches classes and workshops at the famed Labyrinth Musical Workshops in Greece. He is the co-founder of Shiraz Ensemble.
