Event by Teesri Duniya Theatre
Twenty-two years old Mahsa Amini was arrested by Iran’s morality police, accused of wearing hijab “improperly.” Mahsa was severely beaten by the morality police and died in custody in three days (September 13, 2022). Iranian authorities insist Mahsa died from a stroke, which reminds us of the Iranian regime’s denials of the deaths of Zahra Kazimi, Satar Beheshti, Zahra Bani Youghoubi and many more over the decades. Iranian regime continues to impose compulsory veiling on women and girls to perpetuate violence against women and strip them of their right to dignity and bodily autonomy.
While people have taken to the streets worldwide protesting Mahsa’s death, Iranian authorities deny responsibility, conceal evidence, threaten her family.
A global response is needed.
Teesri Duniya Theatre joins those who voiced outrage at Mahsa’s death continuing harassment and repression of women. We want to hear from Iranian Canadian artists. We invite all artists to share their thoughts. Please join this artistic gathering to share, present your ideas and help develop an artistic response to the oppressive political climate in Iran right now.
