Celebrating the Persian New Year- Nowruz and Haft-Sin

Come join us in learning about Nowruz & Haft-Sin; Making greeting cards for children with cancer in Iran and painting eggs!

• Would you like to learn about Haft-Sin and its special symbols?
• Are you super excited about the first day of Spring (vernal equinox) and the rebirth of the nature?
• Would you like to send your happy wishes to your friends who celebrate Nowruz?
• Are you a fan of making handmade greeting cards?
• Would you like to paint an egg for your Haft-Sin table, Easter day or your home decoration?

If you said yes to any of these, this event is for you!
In this workshop we will learn about the traditions to celebrate the Persian New Year, which is called Nowruz. More specifically, we will focus on preparing Haft Sin table and making postcards with warm New Year wishes, which will be sent to kids with cancer in Iran.
Join us for a wonderful time! We have a lot of colorful art activities around the concept of Nowruz in one of the coolest places in McGill’s Education Building, Art Hive.
We have all the art supplies that you may need, information that you may want to know, and people who you may like to communicate with.
People from all cultures are very welcome to attend this event for getting prepared for the beginning of Spring.

For more information about Nowruz and Haft-Sin:
Nowruz is the name of the Iranian New Year’s Day, also known as the Persian New Year, which is celebrated worldwide by various ethno-linguistic groups in several countries, like Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Turkmenistan.
Nowruz is the day of the vernal equinox, and marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. It marks the first day of the first month (Farvardin) of the Iranian calendar. It usually occurs on March 21 or the previous or following day, depending on where it is observed. The moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator and equalizes night and day is calculated exactly every year, and families gather together to observe the rituals.
Typically, before the arrival of Nowruz, family members gather around the Haft-sin table and await the exact moment of the March equinox to celebrate the New Year.
