Golnar Shahyar is an Iranian born singer, multi instrumentalist, composer and song writer. She started her first musical training on the piano in Iran at the age of 11. At 16 she moved with her family to Canada and got her bachelor degree in Biology from York university. Her passion to music and singing led her to Vienna in 2008. She then started her studied in jazz singing and later on guitar as her minor in the university of music and performing arts Wien. Since 2011, she has been an active musician in the Austrian music scene. Her bands Sormeh and Choub were nominated as the New Austrian Sound of Music. She got three times the nomination for Austrian Music Awards with her different projects.
Sofar, she has recorded three albums with her bands Sormeh, Choub and Sehrang and has been a part of recordings of artist such as the cuban singer Pavel Urkiza and the Brazilian pianist Fagner Wesly. In her last album, which is going to be released in winter 2016, she sings with renowned musicians such as Erkan Ogur, Alain Perez, Mahan Mirarab, Kaveh Sarvarian and Luis Guerra.
Her musical activity ranges from Jazz to folk/world as well as early and contemporary music. She has also been part of dance projects such as “Falling up” and “seven cities of love”.
Beside her artistic career, she teaches singing and holds workshops for both adults and children.
