About Us
Massy Arts Society is a community hub dedicated to supporting the practices of Indigenous and over-excluded artists. Our programming is extensive in its multiple forms: open talks, debates, book launches, art shows, performances, concerts, fairs, and many others. We are 100% funded by Massy Books, an Indigenous woman-owned bookstore on the traditional, ancestral, unceded, and occupied territory of the xÊ·məθkÊ·É™yÌ“É™m (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and selÌ“ÃlÌ“witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Unfortunately, Massy Arts does not benefit from any grants or funding, leaving our gallery very much a DIY space at this time. Although we are unable to currently offer payment for artists to show their work, we are here to assist in applying for grants, and offer over $10,000 worth of in-kind services, such as copywriting, space rental, equipment, promotion, workshop and event coordination. If you are a settler and/or grant writer and able to assist us in acquiring funds, please send us an email at info@massyarts.com. We’ll take all the help we can get!
We acknowledge we operate on the traditional, ancestral, unceded, and occupied territory of the xÊ·məθkÊ·É™yÌ“É™m (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and selÌ“ÃlÌ“witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Our Constitution:
To advance the public’s appreciation of the arts by producing public art exhibitions, presentations, and performance arts events, and by providing a forum for qualified artists to exhibit, present, or perform their artistic works through participation in such events, with a priority on Indigenous and over-excluded voices.
To advance education by providing presentations and instructional seminars on topics related to the performing, literary, and visual arts.
Support
Massy Arts society is a registered not-for-profit. Our ability to build platforms for creative and critical practices is made possible through funding from Massy Books. Have a space you would like to awaken with spoken word? Wishing to bring vital ideas into the world and compliment them with art? Looking to financially support an instrumental and emerging initiative dedicated to LGTBTQ2S+ and BIPOC practices? Please get in touch through info@massyarts.com.
