Inaugurated in 1957, Simard Hall was built to house the offices of the Faculty of Arts. Although most of the faculty has long since outgrown the building and is now located in the Arts Building and in some houses on campus, the Departments of Geography and“Lettres françaises” can still be found here. The building was named for Father Georges Simard, an internationally recognized historian who devoted 42 years of his life to the university, including six years as Dean of the Faculty of Theology (1932–38).
